End of Semester Reflection

Using the Creative Cycle I learned that we need to plan everything well because later in the performance, it would not be good. But our performance went really well but maybe we need to practice more. Throughout the whole semester we focused on investigating more than the other steps in the Creative Cycle.

About the performance, I felt really awesome to be honest. Well maybe the audience couldn't hear my voice but I felt good. Superstition was really fun to play, Hey Jude? cool but not as fun as Superstition, for Thriller I'm not confident enough to dance around in front the audience.

Throughout the semester I learned that we need to be confident so the audience can feel it, even though we did something wrong but if we are happy, the audience can feel our joy. Also I improved my singing skills, even thought it's really bad.

I felt really good when playing the Kolintang during Superstition.

What I need to improve is my confidence. I was really 'spaced out' during Thriller, we were supposed to have fun and dance around but nope I just stood there and singing like a fool. So yea next time I really need to be confident.

Singers should be louder, we need to have more fun during Thriller! Maybe don't be afraid because my friends told me that they can see our faces that were full of fear.

To be honest, I don't think so. I didn't show my best ability during the performance. Yes, my voice should be louder and I regret to not listen to Bu Meghan.

It was really effective because the songs in the 70s, 80s and 90s were way better than nowadays. Also it showed other people that we used the Creative Cycle to show the whole performance.

Kolintang was really effective for Superstition, the other instruments are ok because they are 'normal' to be used as band thing.

I don't think we need more instruments, we had enough of them.

No, the singers were not loud enough. I can hear the harmony but I couldn't hear my own voice; along with Nadya's, Daleescha's and Farah.

I like everything about the performance, the Kolintang sounded great also the singers (even though they are not loud enough), the 'small dances' were great, Mike! The bass for Superstition. But the best thing about the performance is when Rasyid rap in Thriller, it was marvelous.

I can hear everything except the soloists in Hey Jude.

The Creative Cycle really helped this performance but what I don't like is the investigation part; we spent so much time in this stage.

Mostly I enjoyed the practice and the actual performance. At first (during the performance) you could feel the tension in air but when we switched to Superstition, you could feel people's happiness and lastly Thriller: you could feel the back-up singers'

To be honest, it was not really hard because I already did it in IT class.

I would never change a thing for this performance, it was already perfect for me :)

I will miss Ibu Meghan everyday, she is really niec and I'm grateful for her to be my PVA Music Class Teacher.

The Final Performance

I think we did a good job, I love our performance. My friends said that it was amazing and they want to join this class next semester. I was really nervous for Hey Jude, Jannah (a friend of mine) told me that she could hear me in the first verse only. The rest of the song? not so much...

Superstition was a blast, but it was hard for me because I couldn't hear the soloists. When the part "when you believe in things that you don't understand..", yea I couldn't hear that part so I was late playing it on the Kolintang.

Thriller? Not really....
I was not confident, trust me it was embarrassing for me. I did a few dances or so but not as much as I did during the rehearsals. Next time I really need to be confident and be brave. I really need to have fun on stage, but I sort of got a panic attack hehe.

Overall it was a good performance, next time we need to calm down and have fun :)

26th Nov 2014

Today we decided to work on Thriller, to be honest it sounded pretty good. But maybe we need to practice more, but for the first time ever it sounded well as I said before. Sometimes I can't reach the high note when the chorus comes and we have to sing the "thriller, thriller night" part. I also can't open Edmodo since the beginning of the semester, every time I log in it would show that I'm a teacher. But luckily Phoebe helped me and shared me the Thriller Track. I think I need to sing louder and if we keep on doing this, hopefully Thriller is in our performance. Because 2 songs are not enough because it shows other people that we worked on 2 songs for the whole semester and I think it's not good.

PVA Term 1 Reflection

So far our class have decided what we want to perform at the end of the Semester; which I called "Legends of the Decades". So basically we combine the idea of Legends in Music and Forward to the Past. In every era we will perform a part of a song by legends (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s). I think we did a pretty good job so far, so next term, all we need to do is to choose and learn the songs. And I think we have a lot of time because Term 2 could have 12 weeks and we have 3 classes every week. Also it is better for us to learn quickly so we have more time to practice and put the details on our performance. Like for example: What clothes are we gonna wear? Do we want a presentation or a small movie? Do we want any decorations? Do we want any singers, dancers or actors?

Top 5 and Why?

1. Kolintang Orchestra
  • Because people in our class have experienced on playing the Kolintang and even though we learn different kinds of music, we can teach other and continue on making it as an ensemble. The people who can't play the Kolintang can either use the African Drums or sing.
2. MJ - tribute to past singers (dead)
  • I like this idea because we're bringing the song again and we're celebrating it. The songs from MJ and Whitney Houston are really good so it's a great idea for this design cycle class.
3. One hit wonders
  • Even though I don't know any one hit wonders but I like the idea of it, we're basically listening to a forgotten song which is awesome for me
4. Going forward to the past (70's and 80's)
  • This is a great idea because we can play a song in every decade and maybe not the whole song, some parts of it. If people that have no experience in music; they can either dance or sing as well to help our performance more alive.
5. Big Band
  • Most people in our class have experienced music and they can play instruments while the others don't. We have some people who can play guitars, basses, piano, drums, etc. The others can either sing, dance or even play the Kolintang or the African Drums. Making a big band is really fun but it is a hard one to do too.

Inspiration

What has inspired me is a song called Warrior by Demi Lovato. At that time she was bullied and she felt like killing herself, whenever I have problems like right now I would listen to this song and realize that I'm still alive. Demi made this song to prove herself that she is a warrior, that she still survive after that horrible time. This song is really important to me because it's part of my life, also the lyrics are touching.
